SEVENTEEN’s Seungkwan and NewJeans Miscommunication Almost Caused A Huge Misunderstanding

SEVENTEEN and New Jeans are the two groups under large HIBE label. Even though NewJeans is at the bottom ADOR while SEVENTEEN stayed together Pledis, they share the same building and more. During the short meeting of the two groups, member Seungkwan almost had a big misunderstanding with NewJeans thanks to the noisy environment.

They met at Asian Artist Awards 2022. Naturally, as seniors and juniors of the company, they greeted each other. At the ceremony, it was so loud that when Seungkwan tried to talk to the girls, they misheard.

SK: *shocked* live long, healthy & happy, let’s make a comeback soon.
Hani:🤭 *shy*
SK: ???”Let’s make a cb right away!”
NJ:🤭

• Hoshi: Seungkwan came late.
• Jeonghan: Right. He came last.
• Seungkwan: Yes, I’m late. And I was put on the spot, like, “Seungkwan! Say something!”
• Jeonghan: Wait, have you never told this story before?
• Seungkwan: No, never. However, I don’t want to sound like a kkondae.
• Jeonghan: By the way, this is the same story that I decided not to tell on my vlive the other day because I thought it would be better to come from Seungkwan himself.
• Seungkwan: Yes. Like I said, I don’t really think I’m in a position to advise or anything. But I want them to be happy. So I said, “LIVE LONG AND PROSPERLY!But then, the group also had foreign members, and I thought, “Wait, what if they don’t understand what I’m saying?” And that’s when I remembered that I had read about their comeback. So I asked, “You’ll be right back. Right?But it’s kinda loud in there. And I see members Hanni laughing like, “Hehehe.” So I asked again, “Won’t you be back soon?But this time, all five members laughed at my question.
• Jeonghan: At that time, we thought, “Okay. They don’t catch anything we say now.”
  Seungkwan: We realized that we didn’t make sense to them. But I tried to ask one more time.
• Jung Han: Right.
• Seungkwan: I’m leaving.”MAKE A COMEBACK, NO?”
• Jeonghan: It’s not like you’re asking a weird question.
• Seungkwan: Right. I asked them about their comeback. I try to actually pronounce it, and I even looked straight at them at that. But my other teammates thought we were done, so they pulled me up, like, “Come on, Seungkwan. drop.”
• Jeonghan: Like, “Stop trying to talk to them!”
• Seungkwan: I was just wondering if they’re coming back soon!
• Jeonghan: And I was like, “Stop, let’s go.”

Turns out, Seungkwan had meant to ask the girls about their comeback, but the words were for “can’t” and “quick” in Korean sounds similar.

• Seungkwan: I still remember how confused Hanni was. Like, underneath the giggles, I feel like there’s a lot of confusion. And it turns out- Backstage, I started to wonder if I did something wrong or something. I am also confused. And then, I heard that-
• Hoshi: We heard through the director.
  Seungkwan: I heard they thought I said, “You won’t be back soon!”
• Jeonghan: And they’re like, “(gasp) But why? Why can’t we come back soon?”
• Seungkwan: They think I’m like, “NO! YOU WILL NOT BE COME BACK IN ANY TIME SOON!”
• Jeonghan: So it’s like Seungkwan threatening not to come back, and their nervous giggles. “NO RETURN!More nervous giggles. And then I pulled him away, so the conversation just went away.
• Dinos: Oh man. Disappointment.

Thankfully, the misunderstanding was soon cleared up.

• Jeonghan: Anyway, after all that, we finally cleared up the misunderstanding.
• Hoshi: Since we are part of the same company-
• Jung Han: Right. We can clear up any misunderstandings because we are in the same company.
• Seungkwan: I mean, not that I can go find them and explain or anything. So… Yes.
• Hoshi: You can tell them what you want to say now.
• Seungkwan: I like “Ditto.”
• Dino: How did this turn into Seungkwan’s press conference?

“You can’t make a comeback, can you?” LAUGH OUT LOUD. What’s more I can only hear”you can’t, right?!I smile with my lips but my eyes roll like a hundred times… like, “w-what can’t we do…?”

Thanks to the company’s higher-ups, the two groups manage to solve the accident before it turns into a bigger misunderstanding!
